What Do You Do When You Have A Bad Credit Credit Card?
First of all - do not panic. Having bad credit can destroy lives but only if you let it do so. If you follow a few simple rules you can avoid all sorts of bad debt and feel much more confident about your finances.
Start Today
Don't put it off another minute. If you have a bad credit credit card then you're off to a great start. First, get all your statements organized. If you haven't kept all your statements, it is no wonder that you have a bad credit credit card. Sounds harsh - but having a credit card is serious business and having a bad credit credit card is very serious business.
So either get those statements together or contact the card company and request them to send the missing statements to you right away. Check the statements to make sure they are correct. If you do not remember any of the charges, follow up with your creditors as any company can make a mistake.
Pay As Much As You Can
Once you are sure your statement is correct then it is time to learn a big lesson. The credit card companies want you to spend - and they want you to pay it back with interest. This is the main reason why you may have a bad credit credit card.
Though they may only want five percent of your outstanding amount, always pay as much as you possibly can. You may not be able to pay it all off but the more you pay now, the less interest you will owe. Accruing less interest means that you will have less debt. Next month, again pay as much as you can and again the debt will go continue to go down. It really is that simple.
Emergencies Only
When you have a bad credit credit card you need to change your thinking. Instead of seeing it as a handy way to cover those shopping expenses, see it as a financial emergency exit. Only use the card in a real emergency and not for those day to day purchases.
The easiest way to achieve this when you have a bad credit credit card is to leave the card at home. If you really need the purchase, you can go back to the store the next day. This will give you time to think about whether you really need to buy those new shoes or could you get by without them? When you do not have a credit card always ready to hand over, you will find yourself asking this question again and again. This will help you make more sensible decisions and soon that bad credit credit card will be in good shape once again.
